Formulas used by universities
- CBSE and most Indian universities: CGPA = Percentage ÷ 9.5. Example: 80.75% = 8.5 CGPA.
- VTU / AICTE pattern: CGPA = (Percentage ÷ 10) + 0.75. Example: 77.5% = 8.5 CGPA.
- Anna University: CGPA = Percentage ÷ 10. Example: 85% = 8.5 CGPA.
- Mumbai University: CGPA = (Percentage − 11) ÷ 7.1. Example: 71.35% = 8.5 CGPA.

Frequently asked questions
What is 80% in CGPA?
With the CBSE formula, 80 ÷ 9.5 = 8.42 CGPA. With Anna University's formula it is 8.0, and with VTU's it is 8.75. Select your formula above for your exact figure.
What is 95% in CGPA?
95 ÷ 9.5 = 10 CGPA on the CBSE formula — the maximum. On the Anna formula, 95% = 9.5 CGPA.
Why is my result capped at 10?
10 is the maximum CGPA on a 10-point scale. Some formulas mathematically give more than 10 for very high percentages; in that case the official CGPA is 10.
